Bryant Smith Reflects on Recent Award, EDPA Access, and Leadership

Storylink Creative is proud to celebrate Bryant Smith's recent recognition as an EDPA Future Leader Award recipient, an honor that highlights emerging leaders making a meaningful impact in our industry. Bryant recently attended EDPA Access in Amelia Island, FL, to accept his award. After speaking with him, it’s clear this recognition reflects not a single moment, but steady leadership built over time. Adding to this milestone, Bryant also recently joined Storylink Creative’s Senior Leadership Team, marking an exciting next chapter in his career.

When reflecting on what contributed to this recognition, Bryant shared that it wasn’t one defining achievement that set him apart. Instead, it came down to consistency. “It was less about one big moment and more about consistency over time,” he explained. Taking ownership when things weren’t perfect, being willing to step into uncomfortable situations, and genuinely supporting those around him all played a role in his career development. His experience working across different teams also helped him develop a broader perspective and habit of focusing on “what’s best for the group, not just my role.”

At the EDPA event, Bryant found the most meaningful moments happened outside of formal programming. “The most impactful moments were honestly the conversations with other leaders,” he shared. Hearing how peers navigated challenges, setbacks, and growth reinforced an important truth: “No one truly has it all figured out.” Several roundtable discussions stood out as well, emphasizing that strong leadership is less about having every answer and more about listening and creating clarity.

Bryant also reflected on early lessons that helped shape his leadership style. One of the biggest realizations? “Trying to do everything yourself doesn’t work — and it doesn’t scale.” Some of his toughest challenges shared by colleagues and others in attendance highlighted the importance of trust, communication, and accountability. He also emphasized the value of honesty, noting that “being direct and transparent, even when it’s uncomfortable, builds way more respect in the long run.” While that approach continues to evolve, it’s become a cornerstone of how he leads.

For Bryant , looking ahead, this experience has reinforced the responsibility that comes with leadership. “It’s pushed me to be more intentional about developing others,” he said, particularly when it comes to creating clarity, setting expectations, and explaining the “why” behind decisions. It’s also served as a reminder to slow down at times, listen more closely, and ensure teams feel supported and aligned.

For emerging leaders in the industry, Bryant’s advice is rooted in consistency and relationships. “Focus on doing the right thing consistently, even when no one is watching,” he shared. Stay curious, ask questions, and don’t shy away from tough conversations. Most importantly, invest in relationships — because, as Bryant put it, “leadership isn’t about titles or recognition, it’s about trust, impact, and helping others succeed.”
